Maureen's Tribute
 Lena Zavaroni

Tribute By Maureen

Celtic Soul Singer/Songwriter

As a wee Scottish girl I was a big fan of 'Opportunity Knocks'... So when another wee Scottish girl came on the show with ginger hair & pretty dresses I was so excited... What happened next opened my imagination like nothing else... She opened her mouth and out burst this amazing, powerful, magical voice singing a happy song. I loved Lena and I loved her songs. The next few weeks as she continued to win the show, I memorised her words and performances and would practice in front of my bedroom mirror with my hairbrush:)

It wasn't until a family party that I got my 'opportunity' to give my Lena Zavaroni impression... And I really did belt it out (giggles). There I was, in my Aunt Sadie's living room singing 'Ma! he's making eyes at me' at the top of my lungs... They were all amazed (I was only 7). My cousin told my Dad to buy me a guitar and develop myself... From that point I've been asked to sing at family functions, which I love to do.

My family & I continued to watch and support Lena throughout her career and her performance of 'Going Nowhere' By Neil Sadaka still resonates... and now with 'You Tube' we're able to view it again and again.

Sadly her deteriorating health interfered with her life and incredible talent... Lena's, tragically premature death has been deeply felt by a whole generation of fans, none more so than myself...However with the love and commitment of this website and 'You Tube' Lena's unique performances can be introduced and enjoyed by new followers.

Wishing you continued success with your site Debs Love Maureen x
